Why Should I schedule a Maternity Photo Session?

Almost every woman wants photos that capture the radiance and beauty of pregnancy; that’s why lots of glowing mamas-to-be want maternity photos. But beyond that, maternity photography sessions mark the important and life-altering transition into motherhood. Simply put, a maternity session is an incredible way to embrace your new identity as a mother and celebrate this new phase of life with your love. You’ll have the perfect opportunity to slow down and savor those tiny kicks and flips, all while your photographer (moi, hopefully) captures gorgeous images of you before you meet your baby! These sessions are also a wonderful way to connect with your partner at a time when most of the attention is probably focused on you and your baby. In fact, a maternity session with me will feel like a date night, complete with lots of laughter, snuggles and kisses between you and your partner.

When should we get in touch to book our Maternity Photos?

As soon as you know you want to do a session with me! It’s never too soon to get on my calendar - in fact, I only take a limited amount of portrait sessions every year, so the sooner you reserve your spot, the better! I recommend scheduling a maternity session for around 28-35 weeks pregnant. We definitely want that very pronounced baby bump and you’ll likely be more comfortable on your feet earlier in your pregnancy versus later. You’ll also enjoy yourself more if you’re not dealing with swollen hands and feet! Some mamas have special requests; for example, I’ve photographed couples much earlier than 28 weeks who wanted to use the photos to announce to their families & friends that they were pregnant! I have also worked with women just days before their due dates! Get in touch as soon as you are sure you want to schedule! What exactly is a Newborn Lifestyle Photo Session?

Unlike traditional studio portraits, a newborn lifestyle photo shoot is about documenting the story of the first moments of life with your precious new baby. They’re meant to capture life in your home as it is in this moment: full of excitement, joy and so much love. I'll be focused on capturing your emotional connection & the new bond you are forming, your snuggles, the love and tenderness in your eyes. The lovely baby room that you lovingly prepared for his arrival will also be in the spotlight, as well as a your new family bond. We will definitely be getting some individual portraits of your beautiful new bundle of joy, but not in the traditional way of posing your baby in baskets or bowls. If you have a special outfit you've bought for the occasion I'll be happy to photograph your baby this way, ad we will also just be swaddling baby in a cozy blanket, onesie, or even a few shots just in his/her diaper. I also have a few adorable outfits for baby that I'll bring along and I'll help you choose your outfits as well so that they blend well together & with your home decor. Lifestyle sessions are more candid in nature, although I will definitely provide posing guidance for mom & dad in order to capture the prettiest light and settings possible. However the focus will always be placed not on the perfect pose, but primarily on the new bond between you all. Sessions are recommended to take place within the first 14 days after birth, but I can also accommodate slightly older newborns who have missed that particular window of opportunity. It’s recommended to book at least 2-4 months before your due date. We’ll choose a tentative date based on your due date; once baby arrives, you’ll just need to reach out to coordinate the final day and time.
